Miles Teller teases Top Gun 3

July 18, 2022 Share

Miles Teller opens up about conversations with Cruise about a potential Top Gun 3.

Top Gun: Maverick, now in its eighth week of release, shows no signs of slowing down its box office dominance. Whilst the figures are slowly dropping, Top Gun: Maverick brought in a further $19.2 million from European box offices this past weekend. This brings the total international box office figure to a staggering $1.23 billion. Does this mean a Top Gun 3 could be on the cards?

The sequel to the 80’s smash hit, marks Tom Cruise’s most popular and successful film of his career to date. Impressive seeing as the Hollywood legend recently turned 60.

Top Gun: Maverick is not only Cruise’s biggest hit, it’s also now the most successful film in Paramount Pictures history. With Paramount being established in 1912, good things certainly come to those who wait.

Following the end of the covid pandemic and the resurgence of Cinema, Paramount Pictures were struggling to compete at the international box office. Releasing only a handful of successful movies this year, Jackass Forever, The Lost City, Scream and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Paramount was far from dominant. That was until now.

Top Gun: Maverick, with its $1.237 billion profit margin, has now passed previous box office hit Iron Man 3 and is set to soon take the 20th spot on the International Box Office list by surpassing The Fate of the Furious, at $1.238 billion.

With the sequel being a massive success after 36 years, fans can only hope they won’t have to wait as long for the next. And with Tom Cruise increasingly becoming polarised with incredible franchises, it’s only a matter of time before Top Gun 3 is in the works.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, it would seem that the Rooster himself, Miles Teller, may have unintentionally confirmed the news fans anticipate.

“It would be great, but it’s all up to Tom Cruise. I’ve been having some conversations with him about it, but we’ll see”

Teller says.

With Cruise holding heavy influence over Paramount through contractual agreements — having convinced the new CEO of Paramount Pictures to produce the budget needed for the seventh and eighth Mission Impossible— it truly is really up to Tom at this point. And well, has he ever not been a crowd pleaser?

“For him to share Top Gun with me and a lot of these other young actors it’s just been such a wild ride, and it’s still going. I’ve never really experienced something like this in my life. It’s a really good feeling”

Teller says.

With Top Gun: Maverick soon to make way into the top 20 box office releases of all time, it’s only a matter of time before Cruise confirms Top Gun 3. One thing is for sure though, Cruise isn’t one to commit to sequels that don’t have potential. So rather than it being about the paycheck, as long as the story works. Cruise will be there.
