A Look Inside LA’s Getty Museum Arguably The World’s Wealthiest Center

June 5, 2022 Share

The Getty Museum combines architecture, art, and nature perched on the top of a hill where you feel elevated physically and emotionally. Plus, it’s easy to get taken away by the grounds and sweeping views of the city.

The Getty Trust, in total the J. Paul Getty Trust, was founded by the American oil billionaire J. Paul Getty in 1953.

The Getty’s total assets (art, real estate, everything) are valued at over $10 billion, making the Getty Museum one of the largest and most influential cultural organisations globally.

Even before you step inside the Getty Museum, one thing you will notice is the beautiful architecture around you. It is such an important landmark that every citizen should pay attention to as the building overlooks the city of Los Angeles. With new views and perspectives, the ten-year project that culminated in 1997, designed by Richard Mier, was built to encourage exploration and inspire curiosity. So, if you feel like you are being pulled in two different directions, then the building is doing its job.

All around the campus, Mier cleverly designed open windows all around the campus that extended out from the main building to frame a scene that he wanted guests to look through. As soon as you step inside, the must-see masterpieces hanging on the wall is Vincent van Gogh’s Irises. His exuberance in how he uses textured colour on canvas speaks volumes during his last week in the mental clinic. By bringing in the art that exemplifies the idea that there are places for people to escape from an ever-changing chaotic world, the Getty Museum is one of them.

The collection of many famous artists is enormous. It houses European paintings, drawings, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts, and photography gathered internationally from its beginnings to the present. The museum’s constant rotation of exhibits makes visitors return memorable time and time.

The Getty museum is devoted to studying and displaying art from the ancient world. Housed in a spectacular recreation of an old Roman villa, its collection celebrates the culture and artistry of ancient peoples and draws connections to our world today.

Located near the Pacific shore in Malibu, California, the Getty museum serves a varied audience through exhibitions, conservation, scholarship, research, and public programs. The museum houses approximately 44,000 works of art from the Museum’s extensive collection of Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities, of which over 1,200 are on view.

Richard Irwin’s central garden is back outside, which gives visitors a whole sensory experience. The garden artwork displays that hold a maze and other incredible botanicals are sights to see – capitulating the life of the mysterious billionaire.
